Tips on how to show to show your home

  1. Make sure curb appeal is “as good as it gets”. Plant a few brightly colored flowers (pansies do well in winter months). Make sure grass is trimmed, sidewalks swept, driveways clean.
  2. Make sure front door is in great condition, doorbell working, a potted plant on the porch is a nice touch.
  3. Have all lights on, drapes/blinds open, “let in the light”. The exception is: if there is a poor view from a window, leave that blind closed.
  4. Avoid the temptation to “show” the house to the buyers. Buyers need space to see if they feel “at home” in the house. By not hovering (or being absent) you can help.
  5. Have quiet music playing.
  6. Put a few drops of vanilla on an old pie plate and put in the oven on warm. Smells like Grandma’s house with no calories.
  7. Set dining tables with nice table settings. Fresh flowers here make a great impression.
  8. Set up a “marketing area” in a seldom used area. Maybe a living room coffee table or dining room buffet. Place sales materials here. Utility bills, pictures of landscape when in bloom can be helpful.
  9. Put small note cards on features that you don’t want the buyer to miss. (Such as “Attic Storage”.
